Trying to find a good look for your logo? There are a couple different ways I like to use to accomplish this. The Photoshop Method and the DaFont Method. Both are easy and have different advantages. I’ll let you decide.
The Photoshop Method:
- Open Photoshop and create a new image about the site of the logo you want.
- Use the type tool to type in the name of your company. Pick a color approximately, at least, to what you’re looking for. It doesn’t really matter quite yet at this point.
- If you don’t already have it on your sidebar, go to Windows/Character and select it. This will allow you to change the type properties for the layer you select.
- Select the layer with your new type on it.
- Click in the “Set Font Family” drop down, highlighting whatever font is in there currently.
- Use your up or down arrow key to scroll through each font one at a time. You will see the type in your layer changing with each font.
- When you hit one you like, duplicate the that layer to save it.
- Keep going through it until you find what strikes you!
The DaFont Method:
- Go to dafont.com, my favorite free font site.
- Click on any of the styles from the list at the top.
- Near the middle of the page is a Preview box. Type in the company name or word you wish to test.
- Click the Submit button to your right.
- Now just choose any type of font you wish to see it in. The fonts will show up with your word or company name as the preview text. Very handy for finding new fonts that might not be in your collection. Be sure to pay attention to the kerning. Most free fonts are not spaced well between letters, and it’ll make you look cheap!
